motörhead - orgasmatron

i searched quite a long time for an original 80's copy complete with insert. i came across so many without the insert, that i'm guessing there actually was a pressing not including the lyric sheet. anyways, i got this full fledged copy for a nice price.

musically 'orgasmatron' comes with a strong opener ('deaf forever') but the rest can't really pick up where the first track left off. still motörhead, so still fucking cool. european pressing distributed by roadrunner records. gwr records. 1986.

fear factory - concrete

a lovely colour re-issue of fear factory's first full length recording, which was shelved back in the early 90's due to legal issues. 'soul of a new machine' became their official debut, but roadrunner acquired the rights and released it in 2002, after the band's first break-up. this is the 'decepticons' pressing out of 300 copies by real gone music. 2026.

still remains - of love and lunacy

twenty years ago i was blasting this banger on cd via my trusty discman. yes, you heard that right. the ancient technology of a laser operated machine which plays back music from a reflective plastic disc. but this a vinyl blog, so because you're probably as old as i am, you most likely know about that.

back then i was always surprised at how much i liked this album because of the clean choruses, which i usually was quite picky about. not so with 'of love and lunacy' and still enjoy this one a lot. 750 copies pressed on jungle swirl vinyl. first released via roadrunner in 2005. real gone music. 2025.

sadus - a vision of misery

recent mov re-issue of this 90's thrash metal classic. 750 copies on gold vinyl. originally released by roadrunner records in 1992. music on vinyl. 2024.

carnivore - s/t

got this og pressing for a good price locally. as a type o fanboy i am really happy to have this in the collection and get a better understanding of peter steele's musical upbringing. hillarious stuff which reminds me heaps of the first type o records, although it's actually the other way around. roadrunner records. 1985.

gojira - l'enfant sauvage (45rpm pressing)

i sold my white copy of "l'enfant sauvage" for big bucks and thus was in need for a replacement. thankfully roadrunner came around the corner with a new orange pressing cut at 45rpm. win win situation, they say. my second disc has mixed up centre labels, otherwise everything is just fine. sound is awesome. roadrunner records. 2012/2021.

vision of disorder - imprint

my wife and me been to potsdam, germany two weeks back for a little vacation without the kids. of course, i looked for the local vinyl store - silverspeed records. a little cramped and stuffed but i came up with two nice finds. first was this music on vinyl pressing of vod landmark album 'imprint'. quite a steal for under twenty bucks. roadrunner records/mov. 1998/2018.

mercyful fate - don't break the oath

wacken open air is around the corner and i'm going to see the first live shows since february 2020. mercyful fate is also on the bill and so i thought it couldn't hurt to get involved. bought this og roadrunner pressing from 1984 on discogs for a real good price. great album by the way.

cradle of filth - thornography

couldn't get into this album by cof back when it was released in 2006. i wasn't really fond of the goth rock edge the band introduced to their sound. ao this was always missing in my cradle vinyl collection. the new record was a great reminder to finally fill that gap. got this through ebay and with a few spins, i really think it's a pretty cool album which i do enjoy a lot. roadrunner recods. cargo records. 2006.

ill niño - revolution/revolución

one of the albums i played a lot as a teen. that first full length of ill niño was in heavy rotation on my discman back in the day, haha. real gone music issued this album for the first time on vinyl with 1.500 copies on dark green splatter vinyl. originaly out on roadrunner records. 2001/2021.

obituary - world demise

listenable records from france released quite a few pearls of osdm from back in the early nineties over the last couple of years. so they did with almost the first half of the obituary back catalogue. i was eyeing the fourth album of the band in particular. double white vinyl out of 500 copies. 2021.

type o negative - slow, deep and hard (og pressing)

type o became one of my most spun artists in the course of the last three years, ever since i snagged the re-press of "bloody kisses" by music on vinyl. by the time i learned that original pressings of early type o records don't come cheap. i managed to get this beauty of a roadracer/roadrunner first press for the half of the current going rate. sounds and looks beautiful! roadrunner records. 1991.

fear factory - demanufacture

one of the band's milestone releases and i am really happy this re-press came to be, with one exception though. the price for this triple-lp was extraordinary. i mean, come on - fifty bucks?! i bought it anyway because i am weak but i feel almost violated. i hope that run-out-grooves (which belongs to roadrunner which belongs to warner) will drop prices for future re-issues, although i doubt it as long as there are enough idiots like me to unload the cash.

gojira - fortitude

the new gojira album! this band can't do no wrong to me. i love all of their records and "fortitude" is no exception. they didn't change anything about their formula but to me, they still sound fresh. i'm not too much a fan of the artwork but the vinyl colour-way is a real looker. roadrunner records. 2021.

machine head - burn my eyes

really don't need to introduce this classic. i love the first two albums and so i am real happy about this vinyl re-issue. although i think those run out grooves re-issues are way too pricey. well, still bought it so who am i to complain? holy trinity with my og tape and cd copies.

code orange - underneath

these dudes really evolving more and more into an artsy-fartsy yet devastating entity with every new album released. "underneath" is a hell of an intense industrial metal ride and stands in line with the greatness of the predecessors "i am king" and "forever".

this vinyl version is the common european press which i got as a present. looks pretty neat with its two inserts and big poster. the vinyl colour-way is cool when held against the light but looks black otherwise. i don't really get the point of such pressings. i mean, colour vinyl is supposed to look colourful, right? anyway, great album! roadrunner records. 2020.

type o negative - the origin of the feces (box set version)

i was on a huge type o kick this year, so i thought it might be apt to close 2019 with a type o negative post. i simply love this "none more negative" box and spent hours and hours listening to the records since it arrived. the record which got the least air time was "the origin of the feces". that is because the album is actually "slow, deep and hard" just revised and not as good as said debut. so musically it holds no outstanding content.

what makes it so unique is the fake and hostile live setting. roadrunner provided the means for a recording to bridge the time until the next full length and the band recorded a little "we don't give a fuck" to all those critics that lost their shit over the first album. the interaction between peter steele and the crowd is hilariously good. a real novelty in their discography. run out grooves/roadrunner records. 2019.

korn - the nothing

for korn i will always have a soft spot in my heart. the first cd i ever bought myself was the band's third album "follow the leader" and so they played a substantial role in my musical development. their return to form with "the serenity of suffering" was surprising and now i was curious if they could keep up.

"the nothing" is the title of the new opus and i pre-ordered blindly at jpc.de. after thoroughly spinning the record, i can only say that they lived up to my expectations and beyond. that record is really damn fucking good. they played out their strength in full extend - huge choruses all the way through. white vinyl and beautifully embossed cover art to round out the package. roadrunner records. 2019.

type o negative - slow, deep and hard (box set version)

the first album out of the "none more negative" box set i feature here is of course the debut record by type o. "slow, deep and hard" was initially released in 1991 and was the band's most controversial album. there were so many things on that record which offended people that it feels difficult to keep track. in "prelude to agony" peter steele dwells on a fantasy of violence concerning an unfaithful girl (like almost all songs do on this album).

the lyrics caused feminist activists to accuse them to support rape. the band even got threatening phone calls. the admittedly not so smart choice of the song title "der untermensch" - a term used by nazi germany to denounce jews, homosexuals and others - brought them heavy reactions on tour in europe by left wing activists plus the bad smell of being racists.

and then there is the cover art. it shows the zoomed in penetration of a vagina, a picture stolen from a porno magazine. well, and besides all the hysteria stands a great record. "slow, deep and hard" was one of the albums i didn't know before the box and i am pleasantly surprised at how much this one rules. the vinyl colour turned out great, by the way. roadrunner records. 2019.

type o negative - none more negative

wow, it's been a while since i wrote something here. i don't know why but i didn't feel like posting anything. i got enough cool stuff to post in the coming days, though. i thought, i come back with a bang. my dearly awaited and desired copy of the "none more negative" box set by type o negative. since i bought "the least worst of" for a steal, i was hoping for re-issues of the type o back catalogue. little did i know that destiny would make it easy for me.

three months or so ago i got wind of warner music in the shape of run out grooves records was about to re-press the complete roadrunner records full length releases from type o (which means six out of seven type o albums) in a monumental box set. this box was actually released in 2011 for the first time for record store day. i ordered this new edition from nuclear blast even when the price of admission was not for the faint of heart. 200 bucks made my bank account frown upon me but there was no way i was going to miss this box.

after a little release date delay of two weeks, i feel like it was worth the money and definitely the wait. a beautiful and sturdy outer slip case with minimalistic art (which i think is cooler than the 2011 edition) houses the six gatefold/double lp records. they all got their original artwork (especially "the origin of the feces) but none comes with the iconical lettering in the corners of the cover. the vinyl colour is a nice opaque green with black marble. i will post the records individually so for now the pictures will do. 5000 copies made. roadrunner records / warner music. 2019.
