molotov solution - war from a harlots mouth split 10"

another big want off of my list. i can't really tell you anymore how i came across this release in the first place. i think it was played by a friend of mine in the youth club i was hanging around at the time. he used to love every kind of music which was complex and hard to get into - 'frickel' core we called it, which i would, referring to the dictionary, translate as tinker core. so when he was playing some new cd he was excited about he always wanted everybody else in the room to pay full attention to the music. and when a part would come he thought was cool he said 'listen to that, listen to that!' and was imitating the guitar or drum play of that part. most of the time nobody really got what he was talking about :-) what a guy... wonder what he is doing now...

if memory serves one cd he came up with was this split of molotov solution from the u.s. and germany's war from a harlots mouth. unlike the majority of the stuff he usually put on i instantly liked this because of the odd jazz parts both bands included in their sound. inspired by this listen i bought the cd, this time i really can't remember where from. i think this was one of the very first deathcore stuff around. a style that was fresh and new at the time and both bands have outgrown by now. molotov solution because they disbanded and war from a harlots mouth because they play their own kind of music now - like meshuggah maybe.

i myself don't care about this breakdown-death metal-pig squeals music of today either so this is more like a relict. but one i definitely enjoy. still sounds great! i won this on ebay and since i'm into vinyl it was the first time it was up. so i was bound and determined and got it for a good price, i think.

the cd-version appeared in 2006 on twelve gauge records and shark men records, which is a small independent label from my former home town leipzig, did the vinyl pressing for this release. it was pressed on 10" format and 528 copies in total. 418 on black and only 110 on coloured vinyl. pink. it comes with a nice gatefold sleeve which is hand numbered. my number is pretty low - #3.

along the molotov solution-wfahm split i scored a copy of this 7" from the same seller for combined shipping. this was one of the records that i would take for the right price only. i got outbid on two other occasions and i wouldn't have been too sorry if it didn't work out this time as well. 

but as luck would have it i got it for lousy 4€. a nice addition. as i gave it a spin i realised that all the songs on this split were in my collection already. the death before honor part is taken from 'count me in' and the bf '29 part is taken from 'the escape'. released as a teaser for their full length releases that i already have, made this a little bit of a let down. this will be filed away with the satisfying knowledge of possession.

1500 copies of this split were pressed in total. 1000 of it on opaque yellow with black splatter and 500 on clear with black splatter vinyl. i have one of the last mentioned as you can see.

per koro: emmure, xforce of changex, death before dishonor

emmure - slave to the game
i'm deeply impressed with emmure's constant flow of releases. no year passes by without a new album of new york's finest. this is number five. their style is very unique. i don't know any band sounding like them. the problem with emmure's sound is that their breakdown influenced style is always hard on the edge of monotony. their fourth effort "speaker of the dead" was one foot beyond that edge and so i wasn't really pleased with it (plus it wasn't released on vinyl which was somewhat strange).
"slave to the game" is similar hard digestible to me, just like "speaker of the dead" with the difference that the more spins i give it, the more i like it. they reduced the quantity of the songs and increased the quality. maybe i'll like it even more than my to date favourite album "felony" in short time :)
i ordered this copy through my internet shop of trust per koro. problem here is that i cannot choose colour variations, so i mostly get the more common ones. in that case no problem, because i like the less limited colour better :)

xforce of changex - the fire still burns
i came across this band checking the indecision records roster looking for older throwdown releases. i read the explanatory notes to their stuff and thought i could really enjoy this. spotting it on clearance at per koro, i took it as a sign and ordered it. listening to it i came to the conclusion that sometimes one has to believe his gut feelings! pretty rough hardcore in the vein of hatebreed's perseverance era. it's the same thing here with the colour - i have the more common one. but still looks awesome!

liking their latest release "better ways to die" surprisingly very much i was determined to check the rest of their discography. finding this one on clearance, too i didn't hestitate and added it to my cart. lovely stuff! i think it's even better than "better ways...". i can't help it but it all sounds very fresh and i just have to move when i hear it. even if it's just single body parts like my feet trying to imitate the double bass drum (badly) and driving my girlfriend insane :)

i started my record store trip at slam record store, where i picked up these, for me, unusual records.

aerosmith - permanent vacation
in my childhood my best friend and me used to listen to a lot of aerosmith stuff, because his father was a fan of them and had some cd's. i'm not very familiar with their discography, i just know the obvious songs like "livin' on the edge", "crazy" or "janie's got a gun". so, as i held the record in my hands i checked the track list and spotted "dude looks like a lady". Because of that song plus a very good shape of the record itself and a good price, i decided to get it. i don't know if this is the first press or so, but i don't care anyway.

my girlfriend already had a copy of this record and i always liked it. one day as i felt like hearing it, i couldn't find it. asking her, she told me she gave it to a friend. i was a bit disappointed about it and said to myself to get another copy if given the chance to. looking in other stores previously i found a lot of copies but all of them in a real bad shape. this one here is ok. a loved one, you can tell but it works. it's a german re-press on black vinyl and printed dust sleeve. a&m records

system of a down - toxicity
after my uncle introduced to heavy music with bands like biohazard, sick of it all, madball and life of agony i started my own explorations at the most obvious sources for a teenager in germany: music tv-channels like mtv and viva2. i started out with bands like korn, limp bizkit, rammstein and, of course system of a down. i really loved this album and listened to it that often, i still can sing along to every song :) i saw this one and other coloured vinyl versions going out on ebay for 40€ and more. i can say, i got it for a real good price ;)
marbled solid yellow vinyl but no insert with lyrics (i didn't find information if this is the way it's meant to be, or if the pre-owner just lost it). american records.

pretty good old school hardcore with some real fresh influences. reminds me a little bit of new terror stuff. if the record was ending as good as it starts (the last songs are still good though), they would have put out a real killer. looking forward to hear new stuff!

catchy sxe hardcore. i don't know if they are still out there, but if so i hope they visit germany shortly.
