hands down, my favourite aborted album right here. bought the slipcase cd upon release and got the black og pressing four years ago. that is why i actually didn't want to buy another pressing, especially with increasing shipping costs from france, if i had pulled the trigger on the splatter variant. a respectable shop credit and this nuclear blast exclusive green vinyl variant blew away all my worries, though. love the different artwork to the og pressing. limited to 190 copies. listenable records. 2005/2022.

aborted - goremageddon: the saw and the carnage done

one of my most wanted vinyl re-issues ever. had the slipcase cd for a long long time and always wanted a first press colour copy but second hand prices were ridiculously high. therefore this nice splatter variant limited to 200 copies was a great relief. ordered it directly from the label in france. listenable records. 2003/2022.

aborted - engineering the dead

sophomore album of these belgian grinders from 2001. since then it never had been re-pressed, so it was about damn time. listenable records from france did the job and they did a fantastic one. clear splatter vinyl with re-imagined artwork (this is one of the rare cases where I actually find the new art better than the original). 2022.

aborted - the archaic abattoir

aborted were one of the first extreme metal bands i got into outside my steady hardcore diet in the early 00's. i don't know anymore how i got aware of aborted but it was most likely via myspace which i frequented quite often back then. i was really attracted by the fast drumming and the groovy parts along to the gore lyrics. the latter i am not into anymore but back then i found topics like mass murdereres gruesomely fascinating and "the archaic abattoir" tied in perfectly.

i bought the slipcase cd version in 2005 with alternate artwork and still have that copy. when i started getting into vinyl and was buying a lot of records i had on cd previously, "the archaic abattoir" was high on the list of vacant vinyl albums. there were chances along the way but it never worked out. a few weeks back i finally came across an ebay auction with a reasonable starting bid. i won it with me being the only one placing a bid. good deal.

the cover sleeve has a bit wear on the edges but the vinyl looks damn neat. a shame listenable never came up with a colour vinyl version but the black vinyl suits me just fine. check out this ferocious bastard of an grind death record here. the presentation is basic. a slip sleeve with an two-sided insert and nothing more. the pressing is hand-numbered with a gold marker on the back. my copy is  number 347 out of 700 copies. listenable records. 2005.

aborted - termination redux

shortly after i pre-ordered the latest ignite record, preorders for the new aborted e.p. popped up. as i am a fan of this belgian grind machine, i didn't ask any questions and picked a copy of the limited colour vinyl. i e-mailed the cm-guys asking them to ship both pre-orders together, even if it meant that i would recieve the ignite lp after its release date. it all took even longer than the actual aborted release date because the mailorder guy got the flu.

no real problem in the end. i don't mind waiting a bit longer, especially with those increased pre-order waiting times these days. but now to the content of this ten inch platter. it's a warm-up release for their up-coming full length 'retrogore' that will drop the coming month. the five songs of this e.p. are just of that style that aborted perfected the last six years since 'coronary reconstruction' from 2010. technical death metal with the right dosage grind metal and sinister harmonies.

check out the disturbing yet still attractive video to the title song 'termination redux' and you will see what i am talking about. there are four colour-ways of that e.p. out there with the best looking being a neon clear orange. i don't know where those were available because century media europe only offered the clear version. anyway, at least my version was the most limited out of 100 copies. seek discogs for detailed pressing info. really looking forward to the full length! century media. 2016.

aborted - coronary reconstruction

this is my second and at the same time last wacken 2015 festival pick. to begin with an introductory story, i stayed in bremen for a weekend in april this year. it was my birthday present from my girl and because she knows what i like, the weekend had some spots for visits at local record stores. one of them and apparantly the best sorted of the bunch was hot shot records. unfortunately some festival was taking place at that weekend and so the whole metal vinyl corner went there to be checked out by enthusiastic metal worshippers.

when entering the in-field area at wacken festival, one had to enter one of two more check points to get into the stage-field of the three open air stages. the first day i was taking the left entrance into the stage-field, on friday i was walking through the right entrance and then, taking a look to the right, there was this big tent with a big 'hot shot records' sign above it. finally i got to the store anyway. searching the vinyl boxes i came across this shining, new copy of aborted's e.p. release, called 'coronary reconstruction'.

back when it came out, five years ago, i bought the cd digipak version because vinyl wasn't of any importance to me at the time. since i started collecting records in late 2011 i wanted a coloured copy but this proved to be very difficult for a reasonable price. understandably i was delighted to get a new copy for retail price. musically this is great. three of the four new songs also made it onto the later full length 'global flatline'. the last song is a well-made cover of entombed's 'left hand path'. 180gr clear red vinyl of unknown quantity. century media. 2010.

aborted - the necrotic manifesto

i am always surprised how a band can maintain a certain sound when it never has a somewhat solid membership. you know, like soulfly. sure, their albums always change a little bit but there is a certain signature that makes you recognise a soulfly song without knowing it. and that's me speaking and not being a soulfly fan at all. to cut a long story short, soulfly shares this characteristic with another band, and that is aborted. this fine extreme metal band from belgium never had a steady line-up but if you put on an aborted record, with the first tune you know it's them. this brings us to their new effort called "the necrotic manifesto" and yes, it's definitely aborted. 

after some more or less unsatisfying records like "strychnine.213" or "slaughter and apparatus" and after the last record "global flatline" was a killer and a return to form, aborted managed to continue their kind of back-to-the-roots-program. it might be not as diverse as "global" but boy, it's some strong shit. it needed some spins but it really unfolded its pure dynamic. songs like "an enumaeration of cadavers", "sade & libertine lunacy" or "die verzweiflung" (with german lyrics) are death metal perfection. everyone remotely interested in fast and intelligent death should pick this one up.

i stumbled upon this over at nuclear blast and while this is a century media release, nb got their own shop exclusive, just like last time with "global flatline". the century media colour is mint green and looks pretty good too, but as i read "neon pink" i simply couldn't resist. looks sharp! the cover artwork is not as cool as with the last record but it still fits in with the aborted style very nicely. gatefold sleeve with all lyrics, 180gr vinyl and a cd with the whole album and even some bonus tracks (a converge cover of "concubine" among them) rounds out this cracker of a record. century media. 2014.

i'm a fan since their "archaic abattoir" album. after that one their releases were sure pretty good, but not as good as "abattoir". but with this one they are pretty close!

2nd: "biohazard - reborn in defiance"

solid album of these nyhc-legends. i remember my uncle passing me the "urban discipline" album when i was 9 or 10. i loved it and it's still high on my list of favourites. "reborn in defiance" is of course no second "urban" but it's solid (1 or 2 exceptions) and worth the money!

animate records order: aborted, despised icon, suicide silence

here i made myself a christmas gift in 2011! animate records is a german extreme metal label which releases classic albums on real high quality vinyl versions (e.g. kataklysm, unleashed or lock up). i was just checking their shop and found some real rare records!

first one is "aborted - slaughter and apparatus" on hollow man records. very nice clear red with black marble vinyl and great gatefold sleeve! there is also a black and a gold one around. but none of them were to be found so i was quite happy to get it for a reasonable price, especially the red vinyl!

next one is "despised icon - the ills of modern man". i couldn't help my jaw from falling down! this album is my absolute favourite by this montreal extreme metal outfit. i read that the vinyl version had been sold out shortly after it came out and that it's hard to get on ebay (just for mean prices).
it's hand numbered and the cover has the same gold foil print as the first press of the cd version (which i also call my own).

third rare record is "suicide silence - the cleansing"
a really good death core record and my favourite of them. century media records. clear vinyl.

i found them all on christmas eve after the family dinner. so thanks to santa :)
