indiana jones and the temple of doom soundtrack

to me the second indy movie was the most difficult of the classic trilogy. not that it was boring or showcased bad acting, even the little boy part is bearable (in most other movies those parts plain suck). i can't quite put my finger on it but somehow "temple of doom" is inferior to its predecessor and successor. maybe it is the missing of the opulent artifact as the secret star of the picture.
anyway, "temple of doom" is still an indy movie and thus better than all adventure movies without indy. the soundtrack is fantastic john williams work as always. the title "anything goes" for the opening sequence is one of the best of its kind and "the mine car chase" is the right action induced piece for one of the coolest chase scenes in movie history. the record was a bit pricier than "raiders" but this seems to be the usual case. very nice artwork here. european version on polydor records. 1984.

indiana jones - raiders of the lost ark

next to my big star wars and batman affinity, i am sucker for all things concerning indy jones and his adventures. if you are a star wars geek it seems like a natural thing to be a fan of dr. jones also. both are the brainchild of george lucas so the same sense of fairy tale-ish adventurism is plausible. when i was in kiel lately i visited a record store i have never been to before. the metal section was a dead end but the movie soundtrack rack was a direct hit.
i saw the familiar cover art of "raiders of the lost ark" and knew it had to be mine. the price was fair and the vinyl plus cover sleeve in pristine condition, so i really had no excuse. dropping the needle on the record, the movie plays in front of my mind's eye. especially "the map room: dawn" is such a strong and ominous piece. i love the whole ark theme, a highly memorable melody it is. i have a copy of the european version on cbs records released in 1981. great score!

batman returns soundtrack

one off the topic. no hardcore or metal record but a motion picture score record instead. next to my star wars obsession i am a huge fan of all things batman. the animated series in the early nineties were my regular sunday morning tv appointment and i just loved the first two tim burton batman movies. i always thought that batman returns was superior to 1989 batman. the winter setting, the even darker tone of the pictures compared to first movie and of course the theatrical score just got me hooked. yeah, and michelle pfeiffer as catwoman was a real treat for the eyes.
something like ten years agor or so i bought myself the cd version but never considered that there could be a vinyl version floating around. i cannot really tell anymore how i stumbled upon this new vinyl re-issue of the batman returns soundtrack but i immediately felt that i needed a copy. problem was that it is a north american release and no distro over here was carrying it. copies i found on ebay had huge price tags starting at fifty bucks, not to speak of the original being offered for even more. after some searching discogs came to my rescue.
i found a seller who offered a re-issue copy for a reasonable price and he came from germany, which kept shipping costs low. when my copy arrived i was devastated to see it being pretty battered during shipping process. three of four corners bend - aarrgghhh! well, in the end it seems like i won't get any copy for that good price anymore so i got to come to peace with it. the vinyl however is in great condition and the music is just awesome. danny elfman's compositions are so full of pathos and emotions, i get chills down my spine every time i listen to "selina transforms" or "the finale". fantastic orchestral experience. mondo records. 2017.

star wars - o.s.t.

i was thinking to and fro if i should up this here. in fact, this record has nothing to do with hardcore and this record has also nothing to do with metal. but as i really love it and am very happy to call it part of my collection, i thought 'fuck it!'. i'll give it a go. so actually i recieved this as a christmas gift from my girlfriend.
as she knows my obsession with both, star wars and records, she thought it to be apt to give me a combination of the two for christmas. now i am the proud owner of the german version of the star wars original soundtrack by mastermind john williams with the london symphony orchestra.
the overall package is really well done. the front and back cover look really nice and are only topped by the inner sleeve, with its nice selection of pictures taken from the movie. furthermore one gets two inserts with some words to every song. information to the parts of the movie where the respective orchestral piece appears and why it sounds the way it does.
one insert is in english, the other in german. not like i would need them though, of course i do know which piece belongs to which scene of the motion-picture, ha! the vinyl of the original press however is in mint condition. remarkable considering that it's 38 years old by now. great christmas gift by the girl! phonogram. 1977.
