burnout store: dead swans, naysayer

on my last trip to this fine store in hamburg's schanze district i found these crackers!

dead swans - anxiety and everything else
sunday is my usual posting day. next in line for today was dead swans (i post about records in the order i bought them). before i do so i look around a bit on the net. usually i visit partyausfall.de, a german internet fanzine, for news. one of the news of today was the break up of dead swans... what a fucked up connection!
so here is my swan song for dead swans (tragic wordplay). on my other visits at burnout i saw the record many times before. after 'sleepwalkers' and their part of the split with architects were on heavy rotation on my player the obtaining of 'anxiety and everything else' was just a question of time. if you liked the previuos stuff you won't get past this one! sound wise it's more raw than the other releases but that's no weakness at all.
they plan a farewell tour for the last quarter of the year. some selected dates in the uk. unless i won't win a journey to one of these gigs i will most likely never see them live. a shame...
the vinyl itself comes in a lovely clear red / clear split colour. looks rad! can't say how many were made. bridge9 discography just says that there is a grey w/ white swirl version of this but no numbers.
bridge9 records. 2012.

naysayer - laid to rest
originally i ordered this record along with this order here. per koro/markus couldn't get it because of problems with delivery and i recalled that i've seen this at burnout too. it was still there and what was even more satisfying was the fact that they had the rarer clear w/ blue splatter version. nice score!
great to here the development to their previous 7"es. love it to hear something unexpected (the song 'laid to rest') next to their usual stuff, which is pretty good midtempo old school hardcore.
the record comes with a heavy cardboard sleeve, an insert with all lyrics and the always welcomed download drop card.
put against a darker background the white splatter pops out quite good. nice center label :)
clear w/ blue and white splatter vinyl. 650 made. reaper records. 2011.

tdon records: dead swans/architects split 7"

dead swans/architects split 7"
dead swans is a recent discovery of mine. i recognized them by checking the bridge9 roaster and ordered the debut album 'sleepwalkers'. as i expected in the corresponding post dead swans' music did really grow on me. as mentioned by the time i was writing about 'sleepwalkers' i already ordered this split directly from thirty days of night. i am in for this mainly because of the dead swans part which is great. don't really like architects and after listening to their part i still don't.
i ordered the white w/ purple splatter vinyl which is limited to 200. there's a black and a clear w/ red splatter version. the last mentioned you can gaze at j@sfr. the cover art is plain and simple but good looking, i think. not so cool is the missing of an insert.

bridge9: ramallah, dead swans

ramallah - but a whimper 2x7"
since i really enjoyed their second effort "kill a celebrity" i was bound and determined to get their other stuff. a little research discovered that their was only one other release, "but a whimper" namely. i tried to order it through per koro at one point but it turned out to be not available for the mailorder anymore. so i placed an order directly at the label's e-store.
musically you hear the progress they made with "kill a celebrity" but it's still a refreshing approach to hardcore music anyway.
great looking marbled opaque orange vinyl. the first 7" slightly different to the second colour-wise. 1st cut at 33rpm, the 2nd cut at 45rpm. 1000 made.

dead swans - sleepwalkers
i stumbled across this band from the uk by looking through the bridge9 roaster. they play very passionate hardcore which reminds me of bands like carpathian, have heart or the carrier. very lovely tunes! i didn't give it much spins as yet. but i have the feeling it will grow on me even more. i'm looking foreward to angle their repressed split 7" with architects out of my mail box to which i was pointed to by s.f.r. ;-)

i've got a copy of the 2nd press. clear yellow with red splatter vinyl + gatefold cover + digital download. sadly there was no pressing info for this press on the bridge9 site.
