the new biohazard album is a pretty good listen. the guys are back in the original line-up and it shows. maybe they sound like they're from another time but if you love their nineties stuff, you'll inevitebly find yourself nodding along to the beat.
the pressing itself is shit, though. surface noise throughout the entirety of the record and flawed runout grooves (the needle scratches over the centre labels on both sides). shame on you, pressing plant! 500 copies on black/orange corona vinyl. blkIIblk records. 2025.

biohazard - mata leão (black friday rsd)
this was my only wish for last year's bf rsd and ironically again i bought it online at coretex. it had a huge price tag on it but i just couldn't pass on this gem in biohazard's discography. their 2nd and last major label release is one beast of an up-tempo hc album. superb. first out on warner music in 1996, re-released by real gone music. 2024.

billybio - feed the fire
it's no secret, i am a biohazard fan. "urban discipline" was one of my first loves in music and that's why there is a soft spot for these brooklyn boys in my heart. of course, i needed to check out what biohazard guitarist/vocalist was up to with his solo record.
i really liked what i heard. it's undeniably a biohazard vibe to be felt which simply shows how much billy graziadei shaped the sound of his main band. fantastic nyhc crossover sound pressed on clear orange vinyl out of 400 copies. afm records. 2018.

biohazard - state of the world address
one of my long time wants got a re-press and of course i am there to gladly add a reasonable priced record to the collection. biohazard's "state of the world address" from 1994 was one of the hardcore records that reached my ears in an early stage of my musical socialisation. therefore i still hold this record close to my heart and forgive the little flaws generously. again, the problem why i didn't purchase an original copy earlier was the goddamn price.
i simply did not want to cash out the fifty bucks plus for a copy in good condition. thus i settled for the cd and later on for the tape version. as music on vinyl always does nice re-issues being close to the original edition, i had no hard feelings with getting this baby. only i was concerned a bit about the choice of the vinyl colour. silver vinyl seemed like a good idea looking at the black and white cover picture but i really hoped for orange.
orange? if you know original cd and tape copies of the album, you know that warner bros. music issued those editions in clear orange plastic cases with a black biohazard sign on the front. i really would have loved mov picked up on that theme; clear orange vinyl or a transparent orange protection sleeve or something. ah, what a missed opportunity. whatever the music still sounds lovely from vinyl. check out the album here. 1.000 copies made. music on vinyl. 2019.

biohazard - state of the world address (tape)
another tape, another biohazard release. "state of the world address" was my second album after "urban discipline" and therefore one of the biohazard full lengths i wanted the most. same problem here as with the "mata leão" vinyl record. inflated prices made my hunt for a decent copy inconclusive. again the tape format was my way out of the dilemma. there were a few versions but only one that was qualified to meet my needs.
in the end i paid a bit more to get it but a tenner is still way less that i would have to give for a vinyl copy. and come on, this tape looks ace, doesn't it? the cd version i once had also came with a clear orange jewel case with the biohazard logo printed to its front. same with the tape case but the real cool thing is the cassette shell also made of clear highlighter orange plastic. musically you know this, maybe a bit too many hip hop influences, but classic biohazard stuff after all. check it out here. warner bros. music. 1994.

biohazard - mata leão (tape)
i remember that back in the day when i was lending stuff from the local library (usually comic books and radio plays on cassette) they also had a section for contemporary music. i don't how this biohazard album "mata leão" found its way into their selection among u2 and madonna compact discs. must have been the major label connection. anyway, i loved the record back then and actually wanted to have it on vinyl almost as long as i collect them plastic platters. problem here were the goddamn high prices for a copy.
i did not intend to unload fifty bucks plus on a fucking biohazard and so i stood away from a purchase. now this tape release came to my rescue. i found a seller from france on discogs who sold this baby for three bucks. shipping was even higher than the tape. my copy looks fantastic. minimal wear to the print on the shell but the rest is in prime condition. j-card with whole artwork and the sound quality outstanding. great release and great album all around. check it here. warner music. 1996.

biohazard - s/t (tape)
it is a pain to get early biohazard records in a good condition without paying over the odds. it is the strange combination of old fans who still want original copies and driving up the prices and no new releases of the band and no new fans, that would make re-issues interesting for a record label. to me tape releases from back in the day opened a new door towards a physical copy of the first biohazard record.
i found a small german mailorder, hoz records, which had a few used and new tapes on offer. i was really surprised to find a copy of the "biohazard" album for four bucks. i was bit hesitant because i knew that there were a few polish and russian editions out there. even though some of them are even official, they feel a bit second rate to me and i definitely wanted an u.s. version. so i asked, got a positive reply and the tape was already mine. when it arrived at my place i was pleasantly surprised to find the tape still sealed.
cool, to unwrapp a nearly thirty years old cassette is almost a vulgar but pretty satisfying act. musically biohazard didn't climb to those heights they would reach with the sophomore release "urban discipline", but this album is no stinker either. that typical crossover sound is already there and the groove parts are crushing. love the signature voices of evan seinfeld and billy graziadei and the interaction of both. maze records. 1990.

ebay: biohazard, black friday '29, death threat
this seller had a whole lot up on ebay. i was able to get my most desired. ok, almost. i missed agnostic front's warriors on blue vinyl. but good things come to those who wait... hopefully...
biohazard - urban discipline
oh boy, this record is some kind of the blue print for proletarian, local patriotic hardcore. the guys are more than dubious but i can't help it, i love this band. 'urban discipline' was my first encounter with hardcore music. i'm not quite sure but i believe it was 1995 as my uncle passed me a self-made tape with that album on side a and 'life of agony - river runs red' on side b and i listened to it every day. of course at the time i didn't understand a single english word but i sang along anyway, imitating words i thought i understood :)
i always wanted an original 1992 copy and not the re-press on double vinyl plus useless bonus tracks, which are all just demos of songs that were on the record anyway. some copies slipped through my hands several times. was it due to higher bids or my own damn fault because i forgot about the auction. but this time the record collecting god was on my side. good price and perfect vinyl condition. of course some dents in the sleeve but come on, this baby is 30 years old.
i can't tell how many were pressed. seems like the internet doesn't provide any information about that. at least i didn't find any. i have the european version that was pressed in germany with printed dust sleeve.
roadrunner records. 1992.
black friday '29 - the escape
the first and, what is widely believed their best record. i can agree with this opinion in terms of a direct comparison to the follow up 'the pursuit of happiness'. i mean 'the pursuit of happiness' is a great album, no doubt about that. but 'the escape' is so full of energy that it reminds me of champion's 'promises kept'. have a sample of it here. again i could obtain this for a very reasonable price.
this lovely 180gr lp is housed in a very nice gatefold sleeve made of some kind of special cardboard. in the first picture you can see that it's a glossy cardboard with a nice surface texture. looks good, feels good. on the center ring, on the dead wax there is an etching which reads 'hast du gepoppt?' ('did you bang?') on the a-side and 'ist mir wurst' ('i don't give a damn') on the b-side. makes me curious what kind of story led to this etching. anybody knows?
just like 'the pursuit of happiness' sheffield's very own dead and gone records handled the vinyl version of this great record. dead format tells me that 1000 copies were pressed in total. 700 on black vinyl (88 of this with a special sleeve for tour) and 300 on opaque yellow vinyl. cd version is out on gsr music.
dead and gone records. 2004.
death threat - lost at sea 7"
i got two reasons to buy this 7". the first was that it was released on reaper records. similar to demons run amok entertainment i tend to buy lots of stuff that reaper puts out, just because of the great quality of their bands. the second reason was that i knew that i would get this record for cheap because in germany nobody gives a damn about death threat, so it was a nice addition to the lot.
the music of death threat is promising but admittedly there is room for development. a full length is about time i'd say :) another cool side effect is that with the clear purple vinyl version i have a first press colour press.
love the artwork. the 7" comes in a fold around cover. don't know if the first press didn't come with a download drop card or if the pre-owner just used it. 757 copies made.
reaper records. 2009.

nuclear blast pre-orders: aborted, biohazard
two pre-order records that came in just in time :)
first one: "aborted - global flatline"
i'm a fan since their "archaic abattoir" album. after that one their releases were sure pretty good, but not as good as "abattoir". but with this one they are pretty close!
clear lime green vinyl + beautiful artwork + gatefold sleeve + poster + cd!

2nd: "biohazard - reborn in defiance"
solid album of these nyhc-legends. i remember my uncle passing me the "urban discipline" album when i was 9 or 10. i loved it and it's still high on my list of favourites. "reborn in defiance" is of course no second "urban" but it's solid (1 or 2 exceptions) and worth the money!
white vinyl + nice gatefold sleeve + poster!
